I'd be nice to see a full fledged 750kv system in the states. Most of what we've got are 345kv lines now and they can't support us for much longer. I personally don't care what they look like, as long as they look like engineering and not art.

I've just spent days at Ironbridge and still haven't seen it all, infact I spent most of the time touring the Victorian town. Enjoy your visit N.

Owe, my chosen pylon didn't win, which was the duel wishbone shaped one. Still, at least there thinking about the electromagnetic radiation. Me I'd radiate the planet just for the style alone :thumbup:

I didn't realize this was an update to an oooooooold post. So I watched the video and thought: "That T-shaped one will probably win."

My reasons:
1. Looks FINE, neutral appearance is most liked by more people, or at least not disliked
2. more importantly, pylons need to be mass produced, installed by the boat load, and regularly serviced. straight t-shaped things aren't too hard to build, and it looks easy to install. Big swoopy towers need custom manufacturing. The short tower needs less specialized equipment to service. The lattice tower is a laughable nightmare... looks horrific to manufacture, construct, and install. I don't even think they wanted to win. Then people would climb all over it and kill themselves with the easily accessible wires.

Current pylons are ugly because they are as cheap as possible while being durable enough to do the job. You want pretty, you gotta pay for it.

Which may be worth it; industrial structures from the late 1800s to early 1900s are actually kind of charming to look at, with brick arched windows and fancy designed ironwork. Today's industrial structures are hideous before they even get dirty.
