The Day Of Seven Billion

Tneo, I was talking about the US Government. Sorry, I guess I should have said that.

But we will never run out of room for the amount of people. People die while others are born. It's a natural trade off.

Why, it is only true. I wasn't saying anything bad about your engineering work. It is kinda cool, actually.

It hurts that you bring religion into the topic, in the form of seeking an unknown purpose of humans on this pile of rock we call planet. Your purpose is, what you give yourself, eventually. And such, the purpose of humanity is also the sum of all purposes, that humans gave themselves.

My believe is, that all humans have a choice. Sometimes the choice is the Frisean Creed:

"Lewwer duad üs Slaav"
("Better dead than slave")

But it exists. Life is not fair. It is impossible to give all humans the same possibilities to choose their purpose. Or the purpose that others see in them. If you try seeking for an external purpose, given to you beforehand by an supernatural entity, you will run into trouble. This system had been tried in the past. It justified why idiots became kings and hardworking, honest, smart men remained lawless peasants. Because that was the order and the purpose of men.

Think about it. I prefer a world, in which humans, that are told to become warriors, can decide to become nurses.

No, you also get population growth and population decline.

If those things did not exist, then there would still only be 10 000 humans...

A lot of people on Earth are now living much longer, that's a fact. But everyone dies one day or the other, so I'd say that the situation we live today is a consequence of medical progress, and is quite exceptional.

No, it is just evolution - we are getting better adapted to our environment, because we improve the environment for us. ;)

Hm, it may not be such a good idea...

Patient: I'm not eating this.
Nurse: Oh yes you will.
Patient: I won't! This is not soup! (throws platter on the ground) This is dishwater.

...

Nurse: Soup? Dishwater? No! This... Is... SPARTAAAAAAAAA! (kicks patient out of the window)

Come to think of it, some people deserve that. In spades.

Thinking about some nurses I know, I realize how ordinary this scenario actually is.

They are not like Carla, they are closer to Leonidas.

Mead hit a record low seven years after that article. The west has been especially warm this winter, but the forecast shows more snow in the West around New Years. Yet if this keeps up, it's not good for the growing population.

Some good news regarding the drought-issue:

Officials: Big Bear Lake Full, Releasing Water For First Time in 15 Years

BIG BEAR LAKE (KTLA) -- After a year of record rain and snow fall, officials at Big Bear Lake are being forced to drain the dam for the first time in 15 years.

The lake is so full that winds are cresting water over the 74-foot dam, soaking neighboring businesses.

Last Wednesday, the water level at the lake registered at 72.30 feet -- just one-third of a foot shy of the maximum level.

Most lakeside beaches have been underwater for weeks. Locals have even reported fish swimming in a pond near the Big Bear airport -- which abuts the east end of the lake.

In 2010, Big Bear registered a total of 64 inches of rain and snow, the fifth highest level in the last century.

April has already seen 6 feet of fresh snow in nearby mountains.

Officials will be draining small amounts every day from the lake. They say there is minimal risk of flooding to nearby homes because the drainage system links to the Santa Ana River.

This years marks the 100th anniversary of the dam's construction. The last time it was drained was in 1995.

(I believe this new post is in line with the forum-rules regarding old threads)

We can either start buillding higher buildings or build underground.

With current technology, we could probably easily support a population of over 10 billion. However, by the time we hit 10 billion (around 2020?), we'll have improved agricultural methods, resource recycling, closed-loop systems, etc to the point where we can support over 15 billion. See the pattern? Overpopulation simply isn't an issue unless you're an NWO organisation looking for an excuse for genocide.

I seriously wish someone would create an infertility virus!

There are lots of diseases and conditions that cause infertility already.

The Chinese birth laws are first of all: Futile.
I agree. I believe the birth laws also caused more troubles due to the fact that males were more wanted than females and the population became dependant on immigration for future reproduction. Don't quote me on this, it's been a long time since I researched it!

As for "Spread out or have less kids" I'd have to say - yes. We have been constantly spreading since the beginning. How many new appartment blocks or developments have you seen in say the last year? Having less kids is actually happening, there was a 'baby boom' after the two world wars, and thus the population grew quickly, and as new contraception methods have been created the birth rate went down for a few years. However it seems the birthrate in the UK is increasing again.

Again, a question for everyone in favour of birth control/population control: Is there any rational reason for suppressing the most basic human drive beyond "our society may, at some point in the future, revert to a state where technological progress is suddenly incapable of matching the population increase"?

I'm not in favour of population control, so no I don't think it needs to happen. We are in a finite space, however we have not hit the zone where population meets/outstrips resources.

How many new apparentment blocks or developments have you seen in say the last year?

 I never heard that one before :)
Instead of aPARTment this signals more of aTOGETHERment of sorts haha
Good one.

Yeah, that generation is still booming... if we are to believe this news-story:

Is there a need for birth control?
Aren't we doing it by ourselves already?

The more civilized a country is, the less is the population growth in it. Give it a century, and there will be equilibrium when having children would be a hobby among the idle, and not enough poor to be noticed.

Or we'll just nuke ourselves into the stone age with the same lack-of-problem result.

oops, my typing has been suspiciously bad today!

T Neo, where did you get your figure of 10 square kilometers for one person to be well fed?

100,000 humans on the entire planet alive 70,000 BCE? Today there are 81,758,000 humans only in Germany. And almost nobody has to starve. Quite the opposite: supernutrition is not uncommon in wealthy countries.

I don't think we will extinct because of 7 or 10 billion humans on the planet. The current population is not a problem. Unfair distribution of food and resources is a problem.
