New ORBITER MAP!

:speakcool:

Its always interesting to see where everyone lives in the orbiter community.

I did add my name location already. :)

Oh sorry, I must have missed it.

What would be cool, is if someone made a base map where all the locations of bases are removed, (except cape) and the users name and coordinates were added. So when you are in orbit, you can see everyone's locations.

1. Find your latitude and longitude.

2. Edit Orbiter file (root)\Config\Earth\Marker\Miscellaneous.mkr. Add entries in the form <Long> <Lat> : <Label>

Example: -112.03 40.65 :Home

I have quite a few non-standard entries in this file - for places I've been. All of the overseas entries courtesy of the US Navy.

 You're funny!

I'm working on other add-ons at this time. This project is definitely a back burner...at least for me.

Gee...if you're not busy...

Hello,

I'd just like to say hi, joined on this forum today.
Thanks for posting the link to the new Orbiter map!

I like some of the new ideas posted here!
Do you think it would be worth developing a small plugin for Orbiter, that connects to a 'live' section of my map, showing all the people who are currently using Orbiter on the map (with their position on earth in Orbiter) in real time?

Edit: I would like to change the link in the first post (and on the quick-link section of this website) to the following:
http://orbitermap.no-ip.org

It can be a matter of time when I could switch hosting, so using this URL would prevent confusion. Would it be possible for someone to do this?

regards,
mcduck (the real one from the m6 forums... :))

--- Update ---

You can now download a Marker file for Orbiter, so you can view the actual Orbiter Fan locations like this:

markers_example.jpg

Go to the main Fan Map page, and click on "Download Orbiter markers" for download/installation instructions.

best regards,
mcduck

Hey mcduck, welcome! :welcome:

I will update the link in the first post and on the site quick links for you and I will also move you into the Orbitersim Staff group with all the other staff who have joined from M6. :speakcool:

I know this is an old thread, but I noticed the following:

More specific about the second point: the screen area where I'd expect the map remains empty (light grey).

I use Firefox 3.0.17 in Ubuntu 9.04. The Firefox error console shows the following:

Waarschuwing: Fout tijdens het parsen van waarde voor eigenschap ‘font-style’. Declaratie genegeerd.
Bronbestand: http://www.frieslandav.com/orbitermap/index.php[URL Removed]
Regel: 32

Waarschuwing: ‘/’ gevonden waar declaratie verwacht. Naar volgende declaratie gesprongen.
Bronbestand: http://www.frieslandav.com/orbitermap/index.php[URL Removed]
Regel: 55

(second warning repeated for lines 56..59)

Those are dutch messages, but AFAICS the page is maintained by McDuck, so that should be no problem.

Interestingly, when I click 'Add your location' instead of 'View Map', the map becomes visible, but without markers.
