Ok, I installed the latest packages. Everything works like a charm! Fantastic job, you guys. I've been dying to have the NS as an addon for ages now. It's a lot of fun to fly!
Didn't they share them for development? I've never developed an addon, but is there permission needed outside of them sharing their textures/files for the development you've done to this point?
Based on the average, MECO is usually somewhere around 50-57 km altitude. I think it ends up being around 50 km in Orbiter because that's when the apogee in the Orbit MFD shows around 105 km.
What's the interface like with BrianJ's Falcon 9 and the launch pad? For that one, pressing a button starts a countdown, engine start and then launch. Is there something in that code that would be helpful? I'm not sure if the Falcon 9 is actually "attached" to the launch pad or just considered...
@gattispilot I just wanted to thank you for the incredible work you've done on this project, along with @Donamy, @Notebook, @GLS and @BrianJ for the textures and coding assistance! I've had a lot of fun testing this thing out and flying it the last few days.
Quick test flight - flew perfect, no CTDs. Clean sep, parachutes detached and capsule stayed right side up on landing!
I also installed a clean Orbiter 2016 to prevent any other addons from screwing with our testing.
Correct, on the previous model, I'd press 4 and the capsule would decelerate as the chutes open, but the mesh wouldn't load. I didn't actually see them until the capsule touched down or they separated.
The sc3 capsule has a much better rate of descent! Almost perfect. Just needs the virtual...
One more question: how does the capsule behave for you once it touches down? It likes to roll over on its side for me. I wondered if that’s because of where the center of gravity is on the model?
So, looking at one of the launch broadcasts, the capsule should be going about 82 m/s at 2km altitude when the pilot chutes deploy. Capsule hits that speed at about 12km in Orbiter. I'm not sure if it's Orbiter's atmosphere model that's causing it to slow down so quick, or if it's something in...
Took a quick look during lunch. Interior of the capsule is beautiful and right side up! :) Descent rate still seems low. I'm not exactly how fast it should be prior to chute deploy. I'll watch some Blue Origin videos and see if they have any of that data on the screens during descent. When I...
Just did a test flight with the capsule. Flew to about 120km altitude and back. Without deploying the parachute, the total mission duration was ~12 min. Descent rate dropped down to about -45 m/s vertical speed on descent. So, there's definitely a source of drag on the capsule without even...
I feel like the parachute works fine, but it’s hard to tell how much it actually slows the capsule down because the descent rate drops so fast after entry. The capsule almost acts like it has an invisible parachute slowing it down before I actually deploy the chute. What kind of descent rate do...
Copy! The rate of descent after the capsule goes subsonic is a little low as well. Once the chutes were open, the V SPD dropped down to about -30 m/s. Took about 12 minutes to descend under the parachutes, which is about as long as the total mission. They stayed on after touchdown and the...
