    Neural network for sequence prediction

Disclaimer: I worked on Neural Networks waaay back during a holiday workstudy at a plasma physics institute - they were just 'the new thing' back then (I seem to remember Windows NT had just appeared and was installed on the PC I was using for the sim) - so we have a history. Having said that -...

    Neural network for sequence prediction

Chiming with what RisingFury has written - I kind of don't see how this is a time series where a number can be predicted from the previous numbers in the first place. I mean, how many people plan their church visit based on how many people were in church the last week? There's plenty of...

Launch Azimuth and in plane launch windows

Southward launch azimuth into the same inclination is (180 - northward azimuth) (at least to analytic accuracy before you correct for Earth rotation). Not analytically to the accuracy you'd probably need - it depends on what inclination you're targeting, how long the launch takes and how the...

LEO targeting - a numerical tool for orbital maneuvering planning

I got some use cases with higher orbit insertion (Shuttle with OMS kit mostly...) recently for which the tool wasn't really working well, so I invested some work to fix various issues. The PEG-4 fitting should now be more stable (aka the range of parameters for which it converges higher) and...

We sure have expanded from the initial cast of a handful of people... For 'Beltaine King', we managed to assemble a cast of 36 people for the village feast. Enjoy our latest teaser: (needless to say, the logistics of the whole thing, starting from costumes, has been a challenge - which we...

We're proud to release the 4th part of our series - The Fairy Ring - an adventure of three village girls going astray into the swamp and encountering fairy magic. Breathtaking nature scenes, powerful music and plenty of fairy magic :D Enjoy!

The new version of the Space Shuttle Flight Manual (both Standard and Deluxe edition) referring to milestone 11 is out (259 pages for the deluxe edition.)! Please download and enjoy the version of your choice! Plenty of news on COAS, OMS kit, rendezvous and proximity operations, new dialogs,...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

:) Actually, somewhere else I described it as 'the kind of thing I would add to a virtual aircraft as a hack to quickly correct some flaw, not the kind of thing one would add to a craft that really flies' So yeah, it does seem a rather faith-based system...

News The Space Shuttle for Flightgear 3.6

Some more impressions from testing various scenarios: Antarctica from a 730 x 640 nm orbit - made possible by lugging the 1500 fps variant of the OMS kit into orbit and sitting through 8 minute long OMS-1 and OMS-2 burns. Kit is dry at this point, but the remaining propellant should be more...

News The Space Shuttle for Flightgear 3.6

I'm not familiar with the tool (basically I'm still reading my way into the more intricate parts of Rendezvous literature...) - but based on past experience, if someone is interested in a system, the system has really flown (or was planned to fly), there's sufficient documentation and an...

News The Space Shuttle for Flightgear 3.6

Another development cycle closes, and I'm proceeding to milestone testing - which means plenty of pretty views. Shuttle meets ISS - a relatively fast dusk flyaround maneuver. Orbital DAP to free, establish a constant pitch rotation of 0.4 deg/s, use THC in NORM to keep ISS centered in COAS...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

You mean like you actually want to pull a stick physically linked to the elevator surfaces? Good luck with a moden airliner... Because as soon as there's a servo motor doing that for you, commanded by the stick motion, you're not 100% in manual control. It's plainly not possible on many planes...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

I suspect it's plausible enough (I've read the same thing it seems...), but the root cause would not have been the MCAS pushing the nose down but the wrong crew understanding of the situation - if they suspected insufficient airspeed as their main problem, they would have caused the blowback...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

After a few more bits of information have come to my attention and a nice discussion: I don't think there's overly much wrong with the plane. The MCAS is a reasonable system intended to avois a dangerous situation, it can malfunction, then it can be switched off. The fault seems rather with the...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

If the reports that Boeing essentially certified the device itself and deliberately understated the potential risk turn out to be true, than it would seem so that important safety decisions in the hands of the 'experts' can be a complete sham - in this case, public outcry is one of the possible...

News The Space Shuttle for Flightgear 3.6

I've tried a fly-around procedure today (putting the Shuttle in inertial attitude hold, using Earth's rotation to turn it around, using the COAS to keep the station centered using THC and RR to hold distance). It was a fairly instructive exercise - it's not quite as easy as it sounds on paper...

News The Space Shuttle for Flightgear 3.6

I think I finally got the rel nav filters under control (after some confusion what is what and updates what and what is displayed where...) So this is for fans of Shuttle avionics intricacies only. *** We don't know precisely where the Shuttle is because the intertial navigation always...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

That's certainly true for some cases - if you're operating an aircraft near the coffin corner, then you might have a few seconds to stall, if you're in a Shuttle at max heating, then.. well... I guess generally the pre-requisites to successful intervention are: a) you need to recognize the...

News Ethiopian 737 crashed on way to Kenya, 157 people on-board

Somewhat sorry to jump right to the beginning, but this sort of struck me... I (and a few other folks I know) have some experience programming virtual autopilots for all kinds of simulated craft (that's... Flightgear simulator...). Needless to say, these virtual APs never undergo the same level...
