    Project XR3 Phoenix (WIP)

Er yeah clearly I meant xr3 not 4. The meshes look lovely btw, I look forward to seeing their hair stylings anon.

Project WIN Ascension Ultra BETA test thread

Good catch, I've never pressed F9 during dev. I can't quite see what's going on there exactly, is it another word written over 'Wideawake', or some other anomaly? I'll take a look on my orbiter shortly.

    Project XR3 Phoenix (WIP)

It's the United Colours of Benetton triplets gone punk! ;) As to space enough for ISS modules, I don't really see the need, merely because XR tech post-dates ISS generation tech, so those dimensions wouldn't be a design specification IMO. That said, there are a lot of modules in that size...

Great stuff RF, thank you. I appreciate the external input to the project. It's the little things that can make the difference.

Updates New boy around the Red Planet - the 2013 Indian Mars Orbiter update thread!

On being ready in time, or being successful overall? No idea if they can get it ready in time, but if they do I'd give them fair to good odds of success. Good luck to them.

    Idea Arrow Freighter Reentry Vehicle

Yeah given the dimensions of the arrow, I'm a little hard pushed to think of enough scenarios to warrant a removable nose in emergency, hence why I prefer a much smaller docked craft for the purpose, since its less likely to suffer damage from internal or external catastrophes.

    Idea Arrow Freighter Reentry Vehicle

Well i figure if there was a problem bad enough that you would want to abandon ship in a detachable nose, then the important thing is to separate and be safe from whatever catastrophe is about to consume the rest of it... I could understand the need for that, but I don't get what being able to...

    Idea Arrow Freighter Reentry Vehicle

Fair point, squeeze em in the cargo bay too? The forward section wouldn't need to do atmospheric reentry, just keep the crew alive for long enough for rescue I guess. Although, what happens when the meteor strikes that part of the ship, its a big target after all....? Oh man, can you imagine...

    Idea Arrow Freighter Reentry Vehicle

ah good point gary, equally painful either way! So it seems some kind of drop-pod might have a justifiable permanent place on the Arrow...

    Idea Arrow Freighter Reentry Vehicle

Harsh judgement lol. It seems that what the op really wants is a simple and permanent lifeboat, for only that purpose, not for general ops. A bit like a Soyuz capsule on the iss. I don't think that's such a bad idea. A small cone reentry vehicle with enough engine power to do a deorbit burn...

Gigantic, mysterious structure in the center of Milky Way (Fermi Bubbles)

If it turns out to be nothing more than a black hole's farts, it still looks awesome. I love being able to see all the invisible forces in the universe through picture filters and whatnot. So what are these bubbles suspected to be made of? How much mass might they be adding to the gallaxy...?

    Mass and gravity question

Nice one dg, I'll be sure to have a play with that. Thanks a lot.

    Mass and gravity question

Cheers for that reminder Ares/RF, I think I may have to have a play with the maths before I give up on the idea completely.

    Mass and gravity question

My original thoughts were triggered by a Baxter novel set on a big old lump of space rock, which created some gravity for those on it. So I was curious as to the real maths and possibility of such a thing. But it does seem you basically need a small moon made of lead for it to have any real...

Wow-wee indeed. Thanks for that dumbed down answer, much appreciated. It certainly puts my thoughts into perspective!

Project WIN Ascension Ultra BETA test thread

Yeah I had noticed that myself, we've just used the code as it was from cssc. So I don't know how easy it is to cap the rotation speed, since I think it simply points along the given vector, rather than actually rotating towards that vector. I'll see if face et al can shine light on the code.

Project WIN Ascension Ultra BETA test thread

Another apology for no Xmas release! I have been away and Face was hindered by the RL beast. So we'll have something as soon as Face can find the time to hit our current release targets. Which should be soonish I hope, but RL always comes first as you know.
