    Chapman Challenge

Chapman Challenge II Ok, I've finally posted the results of the first Chapman Challenge, and the second one has officially begun. Since there is a lot of interest in the advanced part of the first challenge, I've included it in this one for the advanced challenge. Good luck! End date...

    Your preferred spacecraft

I generally like flying anything that's real or realistic like the shuttle, Apollo, a Chapman probe or one of my other probes.

    Chapman Challenge

Here's the scenario that I used to do the advanced challenge. You launch aboard an Atlas V (552). The asteroid is called "2001 DZ3" and you will need the MPC Database Viewer and Exporter to get it. Because there is a space in the name, you will need to re-target 2001 DZ3 once you start it up...

    Request IEATMFD by BrianJ?

Yes, Yes, YES!!!!! You have no idea how long I've been waiting for something like this. Thanks you!

    Chapman Challenge

The key to the advanced one is to set up a single fly-by of Jupiter, and instead of adjusting your outward angle, you adjust your inclination angle (either plus or minus, depending on the trojan you pick). Doing it like this, you can get your encounter velocity down enough that you can orbit it...

Question What did you get for Christmas?

I got: an electronic practice chanter so I can practice playing the bagpipes at work. an adapter for attaching a Canon Rebel XS (which my sister got, but I'll be using as well) to my telescope (a Meade 10" LX200). a couple of computer games a scarf with my clan's tartan on it various other...

    Chapman Challenge

Ok, the 1st Chapman Challenge is now closed! I will have the results up shortly (in a few hours), and I'll put up a guide on how I did the 90 Antiope mission (that should be up by the weekend). I'll announce the next challenge in one week's time (January 7th), and in the meantime, I'd like to...

    NASA releases Columbia report

Reading the report, I was quite surprised to see how many safety systems required manual input to work (suit pressurization, parachute deployment, etc.), many of which could easily be automated. Even if NASA (or anybody else for that matter) never decides to make another shuttle type...

    Addon Problems

When you extract the files to Orbiter, do you have the "Use folder names" and "Overwrite existing files" options checked? If you don't, check them, and then try extracting the files again. As for the files, Kaito is looking for this: Shuttle Crawler Rollout ver9 Ultimate Space Shuttle...

Question Moving planets with rocket engines; is it possible?

Essentially no, not in Orbiter anyways. Technically, in real-life, any-time a rocket lifts off from Earth, or a spacecraft does a fly-by of Earth, there is a minuscule effect on the orbit of Earth (or whatever object it happens on). However in Orbiter, planets/asteroids can not be changed in...

    NEWS from the CSA

There's still plenty of science to be learned, tons of unanswered questions, especially with newer technology available now. I personally would like to visit Aristarchus (or its surroundings anyways), since it may yield some of the oldest rocks (even older then any of the ones collected by...

    Chapman Challenge

You can download 90 Antiope from Orbit Hangar at 90 Antiope (Binary Asteroid). As for the overflow message, I have a feeling that it is because German uses a comma for its decimal point, instead of a period like English, and the program is getting confused. Temporarily, change the "Regional...

    OHM Io Orbiter

That's a known issue, and its covered in the mission outline. After you've separated the booster stage, you need to quicksave, and edit the quicksave file. After the entry for the Io Orbiter, insert the following" IoLander:SpacecraftSpacecraft3 STATUS Orbiting Io PRPLEVEL 0:1.000 ATTACHED...

    Io Orbiter 2008-12-25

The mission of the Io Orbiter and its lander is study Jupiter's moon Io, both from orbit, and from the surface itself.  To get to Io, the orbiter along with its massive booster stage needs to do a fly-by of Venus, followed by two fly-bys of Earth.  Upon arriving in Io Orbit, the booster...

    Chapman Challenge

Only 10 days left till the challenge is over! So far only one person (tblaxland) has said they have completed the beginner challenge. I'd like to think that there's more people out there that can get to the moon ;)

    Chapman Challenge

You're on the right track! Using a slingshot by Mars is exactly the way I did it (after launching aboard an Atlas V 422). An Atlas V 552 could have got me there in one shot, but I figured I would use a smaller rocket, and just get the extra deltaV from Mars.

Flight Question help docking with MIR

Simple, your haven't matched your orbit with Mir, not even close. Use the Align Planes MFD and get your Rinc down to 0, and use the Sync Orbit MFD to get to the station.
