In the years I've played Orbiter, I've only twice had anything close to a close-call with a moon, and both times was around Saturn. The first time was in the 2005 version of Orbiter when I was doing a transfer from Iapetus to Rhea. As I was travelling along, I noticed that my trajectory was...
I've played a few instruments over the years, but the main one I play is the bagpipes (hence the name Piper). I started in the 90s in my army cadet corp, eventually becoming the band's Pipe Major, and then when I aged out of cadets I continued to pipe for the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa for a...
I've used Lola a few times with Orbiter 2010P1, and for the most part it works, but sometimes it doesn't. It crashes when I try to use it with Mercury, but with the moon and Io it works just fine. I haven't tried it anywhere else.
Io is by far my favorite. I've been there dozens of times and it blows my mind away every time. The size of Jupiter hovering over the horizon, watching the sun pass behind it and rise again, the dusty haze on Io's horizon. I can only imagine what this place would be like in real-life. It's...
That TileMgr.cpp file definitely helped, I can extract the level 9 textures and name them according to their Latitude/Longitude, but I'm still having trouble with the level 10 and level 11 textures. The formula I'm using to identify which tile belongs where is based on the patch templates in...
Thanks orb! I think that will do nicely :) I was hoping that the lat/long for each tile was in the .bin file, but I should be able to figure out how to calculate that myself with the other two files. Thanks!
Thanks, but as I said, I already can extract .dds files from .tex files.
Tile Manager doesn't seem to want to work properly. It only shows the breakdown for a Level 9 tile set, and not the Level 11 tile set I load into it. As far as I can tell (from extracting all the .dds files from the Moon_tile.bin file), there should be 30576 .dds files, but it only shows 1092...
Anybody know what the file format is for a "_tile.bin" file? The one for 9+ level textures in the Texture2 folder. I'm looking to write a program that extracts specific tiles from a "_tile.tex" file. I've already written a program that can divide a .tex file into all its subsequent .dds...
Here's some more screenshots, this time in Orbiter, and I've adjusted the mesh to conform to the curvature of the moon's surface. All I have to do now is texture it.
I was thinking of doing exactly that in the next couple of days (minus the Viking images of course). I wrote a program once before that divides .tex files into its seperate .dds files, so once I dig that up (or re-write it) I should be able to extract the exact area of the Moon's surface I need...
That's the idea :) I've gotten pretty bored of just landing on a flat surface when I go somewhere, and I like to be able to enjoy the scenery. After all, what's the point in doing an EVA when there's nothing to see? I've actually been surprised how easy the program has been to write. I...
Spacecraft3.dll, that's something I would love to see updated. It's already pretty good, but there are some things that do need to be improved on it. The biggest thing that needs to be changed IMHO is the payload function. You can only jettison something directly fore or aft, and you can't...
I've been somewhat inspired by Rodion Herrera's "Brighton Base 2011: An Upgrade to Orbiter's Brighton Beach" to create some realistic scenery for the area around Brighton Beach. I've already created a program that transforms greyscale terrain images into a 3D mesh. The proportions of the...
While I'm not a commercial pilot yet, I have been working on getting my CPL for the last few years. The first thing is, to make sure you want to be come a pilot for the right reasons. First and foremost, do it because you LOVE flying. I've seen a lot of people who have made the mistake of...
