    OHM Chapman Probe v2.1

Do you have LC41? I didn't put it in the required addons part, but without it it won't work. I've modified the scenarios in the addon so that you don't need it, or you can just download it from LC41beta0.5. You could also replace "BASE LC41:1" with "POS -80.5652 28.4500" in the scenarios.

    Chapman Challenge

Finally! Somebody who has completed the advanced challenge! Now let's see if someone can get into orbit around a trojan. By the way, in case anybody has been following the competition, and hasn't seen, I've released a newer version of the Chapman probes. It fixes the problem people...

    Update Chapman Probe v2.1

I've made some updates to my Chapman probe: Fixed bug where the probes tumbled chaotically when trying to do aerobraking. Fixed improper weights in the scenarios. Made the solar panels and magnetometer animations separate. Panels now can rotate 45degrees. It can be downloaded from Orbithangar...

US Airways Jet crashes in Hudson River

Automatic inflation is probably a bad idea. Normally when a large plane hits the water, it breaks apart, and fills with water within seconds, with everybody still in their seats. If your vest is inflated, you will likely be trapped inside the aircraft, unable to escape, and drown. This is...

    Question IMFD Off Plane Transfer

Yes, by not using IMFD ;). IMHO, I find TransX much better then IMFD for transfers to the moon (even if it isn't as accurate). Essentially, all you have to do (if you are already in orbit), is boost your "prograde velocity" to the amount you want, and then adjust your eject date forward until...

    Chapman Challenge

In real-life, the probe probably wouldn't do anything more then 0.01gs, and just do dozens or hundreds of aerobrakes. Obviously, I don't expect people to do that many, but you should limit it to no greater then 0.5gs. No, the probe would burn up without a heatshield. Good luck!

Project MPC Database Viewer/Exporter v3.0 beta

I've been working on a new version of my MPC Database Viewer/Exporter. The new version has some bug fixes, and has various little features added to it: MPC Database Viewer/Exporter 3.0 (41.4Mb) European users may need zardoz's Format Converter (if you use "," instead of "." for the decimal...

    Chapman Challenge

Sure, but I'll tell you right now that you don't need that much dV to complete it. All you need is enough dV to get to Jupiter with a basic Hohmann transfer, find a leading trojan with an inclination between about 30 and 40 degrees, and time your depature so that when you do a fly-by Jupiter...

    Outer planets choice is narrowed

Sure, it would be no different then sending one probe that's twice the mass.

    Methane found on Mars

Ya, this is old news. But that's the media for you, always 5 years behind the science.

Wonderful job Astrosammy, those pics look fantastic!

    Chapman Challenge

I find its best to use just enough to get yourself into orbit (and a little bit more), and then let aerobraking do the rest.

    Chapman Challenge

The fuel in the DIVH upper stage is cryogenic, which means in reality that it boils away if not kept actively cooled. The DIVH in orbiter simulates this by cutting out your thrusters and engine after a certain length of time (I'm not sure how long that is, but it's not very long).

    DIRECT Proposal Gaining Ground

:: crosses fingers :: I'm hoping they decide to switch, DIRECT is much better (and cheaper) then Ares. If they do switch, I hope they also look at increasing the size of Orion's service module. As it is, it looks pathetically feeble.

    Chapman Challenge

Oops, your right, all the weights are off. I was playing around a lot with the weights towards the end of developing the Chapman probes, trying to make the weight and fuel levels realistic, without making it too heavy. I must of increased the weights in the config files, and forgot to repeat...

    Chapman Challenge

    Wow, I wish I could get it that good. I consider myself pretty good, but the range I've been typically able to get is: Falcon 9: 2.7 to 3 km/s Soyuz: 3.8 km/s Atlas V 402 (I haven't tried the 401): 4km/s Delta 4 Heavy: 10 km/s Atlas V 552: 7 to 8 km/s

    Problem Chapman Install Help

Glad to hear you were successful in getting everything to work.

    Chapman Challenge

Excellent job! I know you can do it with a Soyuz (it's the one I typically use for going to Mars or Venus), but when I tried doing it with the Falcon 9, I didn't have enough fuel left for an orbit ejection burn, however that may be because I'm not as familiar with launching with Falcon 9 then I...

    Chapman Challenge

All the addon's that use Vinka's multistage have the same problem after the 1st stage seperation: Their rotational thrusters (and namely "Kill Rotation") don't work properly. The trick to fix this, is immediately after the 1st stage seperation, do a quicksave, quit, and then restart from either...

    Problem Chapman Install Help

This is an error you get with either the Soyuz launchers, or the Baikonur base they are launched from. If you want to launch a Chapman probe on top of a Soyuz launcher, you have to install both of these first. They can be found at http://orbiter.mustard-fr.com/. Pay very close attention to...
