    Question Delta II develompment questions

Does ShiftCG really work that way? In the docs, it says that this shifts all the meshes and thrusters and drags the camera viewpoint in a smooth manner. Does the center of gravity change instantaneously, or does it drag with the camera? That's what I meant by taking time.

    Question Delta II develompment questions

So, I'm working on a Delta II/Kepler model in preparation for the launch next week. (Sweet, I'm going! My first launch view ever! :hotcool:) I know there is already a Delta II, but it's not mine. I have a serious case of Not Invented Here syndrome. Anyway, I have the basic flight model and...

    Planets Planet Module Source Code!!!

Cool! I've been interested in doing this for several other planets, and couldn't figure out how to do it without messing up the ephemeris. Can you please post your config file(s) that you changed that goes with this?

    NASA Launch Failure

The cost of the mission was something like $273 million. That was already spent, now we just aren't going to get anything for it. Also, that's relatively cheap for a science satellite. And now I shall take this opportunity to rant. Does it ever bug you that the first sentence of any story on...

    Project Voyager spacecraft photos, anyone??

There is a model of Voyager at the Air and Space museum. It's hanging from the ceiling, but includes the long booms. There is also a nice model at JPL. I have pictures of both, but can't find them at the moment. I'll let you know when I do.

Question Platonic Solids and their shadows

I don't think you can make any shape with a three dimensional shadow of a four dimensional object. For one thing, the shadow will have at most the number of corners and edges the 4D shape has. But you can do what you are talking about, project an arbitrary 4D shape into 3D. When you do, the...

    Desktop screenies

Here's mine -- One for each computer. People do say I'm spacy. The one with orbits shows the orbit of the spacecraft I work on, plus the Iridium x Cosmos debris. On my own machine, it updates once every two minutes.

DeltaGlider IV painted as a shuttle for the Space Battleship Nadesico from Martian Successor Nadesico. Nadesico actually carried a delta-winged plane very similar in size and shape to DGIV

How to imagine the Tenth Dimension

Where to begin -- For starters, he only shows nine dimensions. A point is clearly zero dimensions, then he goes through three normal dimensions, numbers them 1, 2, 3, collapses this to a point (which doesn't add a dimension since points are zero-dimensional), numbers his next three dimensions...

    Radiated heat

As mentioned above, any blackbody (perfectly efficient radiation absorber) above absolute zero radiates a particular EM spectrum which is predictable with quantum mechanics. Most objects are sufficiently close to blackbody we can use that theory for real objects. The exact spectrum depends on...

    Project Updated PEG algorithm

I have posted on OrbitHangar a Java program which performs the multi-stage PEG algorithm, and contains other improvements which should make it more accurate and efficient, even for a single stage. It is a more-complete, but still not complete, implementation of the original PEG document. This...

    Java Multistage PEG 2009-02-16

Java source code for an improved Powered Explicit Guidance routine. I can't look at this code any more, so I am setting it free, in the hopes that it may be included in a future version of PEGAutopilot or LaunchMFD.

IMFD IMFD lunar course correction planning

For some time now I have been working with a Surveyor lunar lander model. My launch vehicle automatically puts the spacecraft on a lunar impact trajectory. In the real missions, they did a midcourse correction about 16 hours after launch on a 65 hour flight. Just before impact, the spacecraft...

Question Drawing lines on the sky

While that would work, it would be quite a bit more figuring out on my part (which I'm not afraid to do if necessary), and more importantly, wouldn't be visible from outside of the spacecraft. I was thinking of something more like the constellation lines or markers on a planet. It looks like I...

Question Drawing lines on the sky

I am working on a model of NASA's Kepler spacecraft. It's mission is to stare at a patch of the sky and look for Earth-sized planets in that patch. It's a really interesting mission, but kind of boring to fly, since the mission consists of *Launch to earth-trailing solar orbit *Stare at target...

    We're all going to die!

There are exactly three asteroids as big (500km diameter) or bigger than the one in the video in the known solar system. They are all safely tucked away in the asteroid belt. So feel safe, at least from 500km biosphere erasing asteroids. It is unlikely that there has been anything rogue like...

    Space Shuttle Ultra development thread

Scratch pad line on CRT seems to be filling up. Launch, then go to ops 105 and push buttons and enter items to set up OMS 2 maneuver. Scratch pad line will fill up (not clear on the next OPS or ITEM) and eventually you get a CTD. This is relatively new.
