Updates Juno Mission News and Updates

I think the burn you see in the animations is off, it may be based on Juno's original Jupiter orbit plan. I updated my timer in an earlier post to when the orbit insertion burn starts. It's 20 minutes from now, 8:18 PM PDT.

    Updates Dawn Mission News

NASA had to decide by July 12 whether to send Dawn to the third asteroid due to hydrazine limitations. The mission scientists claimed that visiting another asteroid would be more scientifically valuable than staying at Ceres. Remaining would provide a relatively small gain in knowledge. I was...

    Has Universe a "center" ?

I think cosmic inflation solves the flatness problem without requiring an infinite universe. Actually, I may be thinking of homogeneity rather than isotropy.

Updates Juno Mission News and Updates

Because the insertion burn is critical, data won't be gathered as mentioned in the article above. Perijove 1 occurs 53.5 days later, on August 27, when the first science data will be collected. The next Perijove will be on October 19, when Juno's period will be reduced to two weeks. JunoCam will...

    Launch News Spacex Falcon9 v1.2 with Eutelsat 117 West B and ABS 2A, 15 Jun 2016

I think the solution Elon Musk announced shortly after the crash is better: "Upgrades underway to enable rocket to compensate for a thrust shortfall on one of the three landing engines. Probably get there end of year." What SpaceX learns from these crashes are used to make the first stage more...

    Launch News Spacex Falcon9 v1.2 with Eutelsat 117 West B and ABS 2A, 15 Jun 2016

If the drone ship's cameras cut out upon landing, the first stage tends to have exploded. Elon Musk on Twitter: "Ascent phase & satellites look good, but booster rocket had a RUD on droneship" "Looks like thrust was low on 1 of 3 landing engines. High g landings v sensitive to all engines...

    Launch News SpaceX Falcon 9 v1.2 with Thaicom-8, May 26, 2016

Somewhat relevant: "When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong." I'm not saying that they're distinguished scientists, but you get the idea. Don't know about...
