There's a city (or county) park near the launch platform, but I cannot for the life of me remember its name.

I've been before. I suggest going twice: once for the SLE, launch, and AHoF, and once for everything else. There are viewing platforms onsite that are the first stop on the tour (which only runs on nonlaunch days). On launch days, all the busses run there AFAIK. There's a Cracker Barrel...
